A story of generations about families and the special place they live in, sharing love, loss, laughter and life.. Based on the comic book "Here" by Richard McGuire. It was first published as a strip in the comic book magazine Raw; in 1989, and was expanded into a 300-page graphic novel in 2014. At one point early in the film, Richard’s father names several towns that he says are on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, when in fact they are all towns, located along Interstate 80 , PA, which had not even been built at the time.. [from the trailer] Richard: You know, if you want, you could spend the rest of the night here.Margaret: I could spend the rest of my life here.. Features They Stooge to Conga (1943). Clarinet Concerto, Pts. 1 and 2 Written by Artie Shaw. Performed by Artie Shaw and His Orchestra Courtesy of RCA Records By arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment. LIKES: Good, true to life in many aspects. Dynamic use of set/setting Creative transitions Some fascinating connections to aging technology Sometimes I liked the artistic angle. The film’s advertising didn’t lie to you. Here’s a film that is truly one of the most unique concepts we’ve seen in a while. The film depends on enjoying the capture of a single camera/location and telling a story about the impact of time on life and the people moving through it. Zemeckis accomplished this task on many levels and managed to make good use of the space and keep the shot dynamic despite it being so static. The dynamic changes in the set help make this piece fascinating, and the idea of changing furniture is a characteristic of the house itself, which is impressive and serves as a metaphorical window into life. I loved seeing how this room was lived in, and seeing the families who each called the villa home, their interactions, auras, and personalities brought a different light to the scene and told their own micro-stories. The transitions were through the contours of the photographs, drawing attention before rippling into a new scene, the technique was smooth and rarely overdone for me. There were many creative aspects to it, but never lost the realism to make this a beautiful, balanced piece. In terms of story and acting, the talent roster helped bring this film to life and achieve its goal of being a look at life. This is a film that relies heavily on being relevant, and the actors to bring that relevance to life. In terms of storytelling, it rarely bleeds over the people living their lives, taking snapshots of different periods and reflecting them through time. The ups and downs are beautifully captured on screen, and Zemeckis' The vision helps bring the ideas home and hit you with the emotional punch this film promises. As I was swept up in the relevant tales, it only deepened my connection to the film, and my inner self reflected on what this film was supposed to teach me. The acting is there to give words to the visions, and much of the dialogue is poetic rather than overly Shakespearean. Bettany was a surprise, and while she’s not as engaging or dynamic as her Disney films, she still manages to captivate me with a brilliant performance of a Boomer generation grappling with the rapid changes happening to the world. Wright’s return to the screen is fierce, as her character veers between hilarity and delirium. It’s a great portrayal of the struggles that have befallen so many in her shoes during decades of great change. Of course, Hanks is as talented as ever, incorporating elements of his other characters into every moment of his life and doing so with the same class and drive that he almost always brings to the screen. It’s a chemistry that works, this family atmosphere feels so natural and almost authentic with strong motivations that drive the characters and never fall too far into Hollywood portrayal.
